Aston Oxborough has had to patient for his chance in the Motherwell net, playing second choice to club captain Liam Kelly for the past two seasons. However, Stuart Kettlewell opted for Oxborough in their last outing as the keeper made a pivotal stop in the shootout to earn his side a bonus point. That match has given Oxborough some confidence as he says the competition for the number one spot is heating up.

Following the news that Erik Barmack had withdrawn his offer of investment into the club, Chief Executive Brian Caldwell speaks about how that process came about. He discusses his relationship with the Well Society and the close communication the two parties have had and positive discussions about the future. Caldwell also explains Theo Bair's transfer away from the club as well as offering an update on further recruitment.

Motherwell started their Premier Sports Cup group in perfect fashion but knew slip ups had to be limited for the rest of the group action if they want to finish top and go through seeded. A trip to Montrose lay in wait and after Shane Blaney's opener, Motherwell failed to capitalise on the remainder of their chances in the match. In the end, they were punished as Montrose found the leveller with just five minutes to go. A point each, the match went to penalties to decide who came away with the bonus point. Five cool penalty takers for the Steelmen stepped up a slotted home and thanks to Aston Oxborough making a stop, Motherwell limited the damage done.

In their first competitive outing of the new season, Motherwell hosted League Two Edinburgh City in the Premier Sports Cup. Despite being heavy favourites, the visitors put up a fight and it took until the 43rd minute for Kofi Balmer to find the breakthrough. Dan Casey and Stephen O'Donnell added a second and a third before the end of the game.

Dan Casey reckons the competition for places in the Motherwell defence this season will be good for everyone involved. The Irishman has been impressed with the new players thinks they will all benefit the team. Casey also tells us how pleased he is to be settled and under contract for this season, as this time last year, there was doubt as to where he would be playing.

Stuart Kettlewell was pleased his side got the three points on Saturday against Edinburgh City, but insists his team must go up to the next level if they are beat Montrose on Tuesday night.  The manager drilled home his admiration for Montrose who "punch above their weight" and Kettlewell reckons the task could be trickier than normal. Theo Bair's move away from Motherwell is discussed with Kettlewell confirming the transfer has moved to an advanced stage, whilst the appointment of Paul McGinn as captain and Stephen O'Donnell as his vice.

Shane Blaney was here this time last year when recruitment was slow and the squad was low on numbers. Fast forward 12 months and the Irish defender has seen a difference. He is pleased that the new players have had time to integrate themselves into their new surroundings ahead of the new season.
