That’s more like it // Motherwell 3-0 Morton

In Motherwell's fourth and final match of the Premier Sports Cup group-stage, they sealed their place in the Round of 16 with an assured victory over Morton.  The hosts battled through frustrations in the final third, to coast to a commanding three-goal cushion in the second-half, with Apostolos Stamatelopoulos breaking the deadlock with his first-goal of the season, before Tawanda Maswanhise netted a magnificent double to secure all three-points. Never in danger of conceding, Motherwell can take confidence from Tuesday evening's encounter, as they face Hertha Berlin in a final pre-season test before the opening game of the season against Rangers.

In control but still needing more // Stenhousemuir 0-1 Motherwell

In Motherwell's third match of the Premier Sports Cup group-stage, they were back on the road, this time to Stenhousemuir. As the torrential rain fell, over 1000 Motherwell fans gathered in stands as Motherwell started the game on the front foot. With a number of big opportunities not taken, it was just before half-time when the Steelmen got their deserved lead through Stephen O'Donnell. The second-half followed a similar narrative. Creating plenty opportunities, that killer instinct to put the game beyond Stenhousemuir's reach was lacking. Never in danger of conceding, the game fizzled out and the win meant Motherwell are now one win away from qualifying top of the group.

Persistence gets us over the line // Motherwell 2-1 Peterhead

Jens Berthel Askou faced Peterhead in his first home match in charge, with the League One side travelling to Fir Park looking to cause an upset.  And they got off to the perfect start. Jack Brown raced through on goal before slotting past debutant Matty Connelly inside ten minutes. The new game model began to take shape and Motherwell controlled all of the ball and played the game in the Peterhead half. Emmanuel Longelo levelled the game, smashing into the top corner on his first start for the claret and amber. In the second-half, Peterhead dropped deeper and deeper, frustrating the hosts for large periods of the game. Just when it looked like the second goal wouldn't arrive, up popped Lukas Fadinger to get on the end of a special Callum Slattery cross in stoppage-time, to take the Steelmen onto five points in Group G.
