November: Picking Ourselves up off the Canvas
Motherwell kicked off the month of November with a huge Premier Sports Cup semi-final match against St Mirren at Hampden. Looking to reach a domestic cup final for the first time since 2018. Preparations couldn't have been better, but the day at Hampden would be filled with heartbreak for anyone associated with Motherwell Football Club. Despite this first big setback under Jens Berthel Askou, the team picked themselves up off the canvas to face Aberdeen for the third time this season. Following the final international break of 2025, Motherwell kicked off a hectic schedule. Playing three games in the space of ten days, this run could be the difference between a good or bad season, and the Steelmen had to give it everything.
We need a bigger blanket // Dundee United 0-0 Motherwell
The Steelmen have coped with the busy festive period to this stage, and as they travelled to Tannadice Park looking to continue that run, they were met with a robust Dundee United side. Jim Goodwin's team were winless in five going into this match and proved tough to break down. With some half chances squandered, neither team had the prolific touch to win the match for their team. In the end, it was Motherwell's fifth consecutive clean sheet in the league, the first time they had achieved the feat since 2010. Extending their unbeaten run to nine games, Jens Berthel Askou's side will look to go one better next weekend.
Tawanda Maswanhise's November highlights
Tawanda Maswanhise has picked up the G4 Claims player of the month for November. Voted by the Motherwell FC fans, Maswanhise makes two trophies for his performances in November. The forward also won the William Hill Premiership player of the month for his impressive displays during November. Well done, Tawanda.
Iain Robinson named Head Coach of Women’s team
Iain Robinson will be the new head coach of Motherwell’s women’s team. Robinson, who previously held the position of Under-17s coach at Rangers, will join Motherwell from Queens Park after being appointed the Head Coach of the Spiders in 2024. Assistant Coach David Brownlie will also join the coaching staff at the club after departing Queens Park. “I’m really pleased,” said Robinson, who will officially take charge ahead of this weekend's SWPL meeting with Hearts at K-Park. “We’re really excited to get started. From the outside looking in, Motherwell seemed like a very exciting club to be a part of. The women’s department has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and after speaking with the board, they had a clear idea of what they wanted to do, and that tied in exactly with what I and David wanted to do. “The structure behind the scenes is something that I really bought into. Coming through a youth academy background at Rangers, having a strong youth academy at the club, and having a young flow of players from the academy are things that we wanted to work with and things that attracted both myself and David. “We want to be a team that dominates the ball and imposes our structure on the game. We look to play through the thirds, build from the back, and create a high number of quality chances. "We can't wait to get started." Despite his youthful age, Robinson has already built an impressive and extensive resume within the women’s game, after having achieved his UEFA A-license award in 2022. Robinson has held coaching positions at BSC Glasgow Community Sports Club before spells with both Greenock Morton and Partick Thistle men’s teams, respectively. He then replaced the departing Craig Joyce in Glasgow after being headhunted to become the head coach of Queen's Park. Robinson departs the Spiders, with the club sitting comfortably in the final promotion-playoff position in the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 table, one point shy of Boroughmuir Thistle in second. “I'm thrilled to be able to announce Iain as our new Head Coach,” Motherwell Chief Executive Brian Caldwell said. “He is a young and ambitious coach who impressed from a very early stage during the interview process. His vision and plan are clear, and I look forward to working with him going forward. "I also want to extend my gratitude to Queen's Park, who have been accommodating throughout this process and allowed for an easy and smooth exit for Iain."
Santa Dash Returns to Fir Park
After a successful maiden event at Fir Park 12 months ago, the Daily Mile returned in 2025. This year, Motherwell was the only professional club in the United Kingdom that took part. The event also grew in stature this time round, with over 150 children from Knowetop Primary, Keir Hardie Primary and Fir Park School taking part. Promoting physical activity as well as the social and mental health benefits, the children were greeted by the full Motherwell FC first-team squad as they began their laps around the pitch. "It's always such a warm feeling seeing all the children with a smile on their face," Dawn Middleton said. "We are so proud to be the only club in the UK that is taking part in this initiative. We wanted to include even more children than we did 12 months ago. I hope everyone had a wonderful morning."
Handling the expectation // Motherwell 3-0 Livingston
It's been an exceptional first season so far under Jens Berthel Askou, and Motherwell faced off against Livingston at Fir Park in a match that many would expect the Steelmen to come away with nothing less than three points. With a weight of expectation and pressure on their shoulders, the Motherwell players settled into their groove, and it was Elliot Watt who got the opener in the first-half. Apostolos Stamatelopoulos maintained his 100% record from the penalty spot following the award of a spot kick after Johnny Koutroumbis was tripped in the area. Emmanuel Longelo rounded off a wonderful team move that put the cherry on top of the cake, ensuring Motherwell's unbeaten run continued.
The Motherwell squad take part in Festive Friends
Every year, Motherwell FC Community Trust looks to help improve people's lives in our local community. One of those excellent initiatives is the Festive Friends lunch that takes place at Fir Park. Delivered in partnership with the SPFL Trust, Festive Friends provides a special free Christmas lunch, entertainment, and a welcoming environment for people who may have had a tough year, are looking for social connection or who otherwise may spend the festive season alone. The event continues to grow each year, reflecting the strength of community support and the importance of positive social experiences during the holidays. Ravenscraig Ltd, a leading sponsor for the initiative, provided a cash donation of £2,800 to cover the cost of meals for attendees. In an afternoon of laughter and socialising, the Motherwell FC squad were also on hand to help distribute the Christmas lunches and gifts to the attendees in the room before spending some time getting to know those in attendance. Ensuring that all costs were covered, Motherwell FC Community Trust was grateful for all support received for the event and hoped that everyone that attended had a lovely afternoon. Special thanks must go to New College Lanarkshire for the students who helped serve the meals. A special thanks also to the SPFL Trust for their involvement, as well as Kamen Brown for the entertainment provided.
